Exchanging your home

Are you looking to move to a bigger/smaller home or looking to move to a different area? If so, one of the quickest ways to move home is to swap with someone else, this is called a mutual exchange.

You can look for other people to swap your home with through the HomeSwapper website - a database of social housing tenants who are looking to swap their home – either locally or somewhere else in the UK.

All you need to do is register online and give details about your current home such as the size, location etc and details about the type of home you are looking to move to. If you don’t have internet access at home you can access it free of charge at our Internet Cafe on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Can my request to swap my home be refused?
We will always try and support you if you want to swap your home. However, there are certain circumstances where we can refuse your request such as if you are in rent arrears or if the new tenant would be substantially under-occupying the home. HomeSwapper will then look for a suitable home for you. Careful consideration will also be given to the condition of your home. Normal wear and tear is acceptable however where a tenant has damaged the home beyond this, then we will only give permission once you have repaired this damage.
