Your rent

Paying your rent each week in advance is a condition of your tenancy agreement. Regardless of your situation you should make sure that your rent is the first payment you make each week. There are no circumstances where you should not pay your rent and other charges, as failure to pay will put your home at risk.

This section tells you what your rent and other charges pay for, how you can pay, what happens if you don’t pay and what money advice is available if you find it difficult to pay your rent or other bills.

About your rent
Your rent and any other charges relating to your tenancy are charged weekly. When you sign an agreement to become a South Liverpool Homes (SLH) tenant, you agree to pay the rent and other charges weekly in advance. Failure to do this will result in restrictions being placed on your tenancy and ultimately you will lose your home.

Your rent and charges pay for the services that we provide to you so we cannot provide these services if you owe us money. Every time you receive a copy of our Bulletin magazine, we include a copy of your personalised rent statement telling you the status of your rent account. You will receive this four times a year. If you owe us money we will contact you more regularly to update you on the status of your rent account. You can get a rent account balance at any time by contacting SLH during office opening hours. You can also get instant access to your rent balance 24 hours a day, by:
• Registering for online services on our website. This will give you a logon for online services where you can not only view your rent account you can also look at your repair history and tenancy details.
• Registering for text services by texting 07508954954. Once you have registered just text BAL to get your balance.

Did you know?
SLH review your rent every year. This is normally at the beginning of April. We will write to you 28 days before your rent is due to change to tell you what the changes are and why we are making them. You must make sure that when you receive this notice, you update your payments to make sure you don’t fall into arrears.
