Neighbours Celebrate in South Liverpool

Residents in South Liverpool got together to enjoy a fun day of celebrations to mark European Neighbours Day.
The special day, organised by South Liverpool Housing, took place on Friday 4th June where residents were treated to an action-packed day of science experiments, line dancing, a fun fair and massage and holistic therapy taster sessions.
Neighbours Day is an international event which aims to bring neighbours and local people together and encourage community links.
Over 50 partners attended the day including the fires service who demonstrated the dangers of chip pan fires, the PCT who carried out health screening checks and Merseyside Police who gave out information and devices to make people’s homes more secure.
Schools and youth organisations also had the chance to bid for £1,000 to make a difference in their community in an Environmental Dragons Den, which was sponsored by Liverpool City Council.
Young people also gained hands on experience of the judicial system when they took part in a Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial.  It gave them an insight into the legal system in an innovative and exciting way by simulating a typical court case.
Julie Fadden, chief executive for South Liverpool Housing, said: "Today’s event has been bigger and better than ever.

"This year’s theme of health, well being and learning has been a great success.

"It’s been an amazing day, which has given the community the opportunity to learn whilst having fun.”
SLH used the day to consult with tenants about issues that matter to them locally.  This will assist the landlord in setting its ‘local offers’ – standards which are agreed between social landlords and their tenants.  All housing associations have until April 2011 to implement these local offers which are meaningful to tenants.
