We beat off stiff competition to take top spot in the ‘Best health and wellbeing initiative’ category at the 2014 CIPD People Management Awards, an event that recognises and celebrates outstanding achievement in people management.
We were recognised for our revised approach to wellbeing after launching our ‘Every Person Positive’ project which empowered employees to have their say about the organisation’s wellbeing offer. Employees now have greater choice and a more personalised wellbeing service which includes all colleagues receiving an annual wellbeing payment, individual life coach and nutrition sessions, and a healthier workplace environment.
Sickness absence has reduced by 54% since this holistic approach has been introduced and employees responded positively through their annual colleague engagement process which showed a 15% improvement around wellbeing. This has had a positive impact on the communities they serve, tenant satisfaction is at its highest and financial business performance is really strong.
Julie Fadden, Chief Executive of The SLH Group said “It’s absolutely fantastic to get national recognition for our approach to health and wellbeing. Every Person Positive has been a great way for employees to improve their health and wellbeing at work as well as at home, in a way that suits them. It has become such a priority at SLH that the first question managers now ask in monthly one-to-ones with employees is how their personal wellbeing is.”
“We strongly believe that by having wellbeing as an integral part of our business strategy, we will foster happier, motivated and more productive employees. This was backed up earlier this year when we took the top spot in The Sunday Times 100 ‘Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For’ list and were awarded the elite Investors in People Gold status in November last year.”
The CIPD Awards were divided into 19 categories and were open to all types of organisations, regardless of size or sector. The winners represent outstanding achievement and contribution to business sustainability and success.
Commenting on the Awards, Peter Cheese, Chief Executive at CIPD, said: “Congratulations to all our winners and finalists of this year’s Awards, who highlight the remarkable work HR professionals are doing to improve the quality of work and working lives. It’s fantastic to see so many examples of brilliant and inspiring people management and leadership.”
The glitzy event took place on 30 September at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, hosted by comedian and star of the Kumars at No.42 Sanjeev Bhaskar.
